What engines are available for the 2021 Chevy Suburban?
2021 Suburban Horsepower and Engine Options
The 2021 Suburban boasts many strengths. Vast seating space, a huge cargo area, composed handling, and an intuitive touchscreen are just the tip of the Suburban-berg. On top of everything else, the Suburban has been fully redesigned for 2021.
Three refined engine options are available for the 2021 Chevy Suburban. For specifics on each of these choices, read on below!
The three engines available for the 2021 Chevy Suburban are the:
- 5.3-liter V8 that pumps out 355 horsepower
- 6.2-liter V8 that pumps out 420 horsepower
- 3.0-liter turbodiesel inline-six that pumps out 277 horsepower
Each engine comes mated to the same 10-speed automatic transmission. Rear-wheel drive is standard, while four-wheel drive is available.
The 355 hp 5.3-liter V8 engine comes standard in the 2021 Chevy Suburban. It does a great job zipping around town, and can accelerate up to highway speed with minimal strain. Partly to credit for the enjoyable, power-ready drive the engine provides is the delightfully quick, decisively shifting 10-speed transmission; this gizmo always has plenty of power on tap ready to be unleashed.
The 420 horsepower 6.2-liter V8 provides everything drivers need to turn their drive into a bona fide blaze of glory. This hot and spicy offering maneuvers the big SUV effortlessly, even with big loads being hauled behind. When the pedal is pushed down, a satisfying exhaust roar is emitted. Note that this engine is only offered on the High Country trim.
3.0-liter Duramax Diesel
The 277 hp 3.0-liter diesel engine, lovingly referred to as “Baby Duramax,” is a likewise great option. It provides brisk, smooth, quiet acceleration. This last detail is particularly impressive, as diesel engines are known to be noisy in general.
Electronic Gear Selector
One unique performance element of the 2021 Suburban is the electronic gear selector mounted on the dash. Buttons and switches are used to switch gears, rather than a shift stick. Park and neutral can be toggled with buttons, while switches are pulled to engage drive and reverse.
