Is every GM vehicle going to be electric?
Electric Future Plans for General Motors
Big changes are happening throughout the automotive industry. Gas seems to be on its way out, and electrification is on its way in. The growing majority of proponents for electric vehicles tout the models’ responsive performance, low cost-to-own, and, most importantly, benefits for the planet.
But just how far into electrification is General Motors planning to dive? Is every future GM vehicle going to be an EV?
Yes, GM is making no bones about it: they’re aiming for a future where every vehicle is an EV. The main motivation for this is an automotive landscape that creates zero harmful emissions.
Not only does GM believe that EVs are the best option for the planet, but they of course also aim to make electric rides that are desirable and affordable for their customer base. The whole industry is moving in this direction, with the end result hopefully being beneficial to both society and the individual; the individual is, after all, a part of society.
The GM EVs will be powered by the automaker’s all-new modular platform and Ultium batteries. The models will be made to fill every vehicular segment. This is possible because the platform is flexible enough to be utilized for trucks, SUVs, crossovers, cars, commercial vehicles, and whatever body type the minds of the future may dream up. Even self-driving vehicles will get in on the fun.
General Motors pledges to be sure to bring their penchant for excellent design, performance, packaging, range and affordability to each one. The EVs should utilize FWD, RWD, AWD, and performance WD configurations. GM is aiming for 20 new electric vehicles in its lineup by 2023, one being the tantalizing upcoming Hummer EV.
In this manner, our favorite automaker hopes to make electric cars available for each and every individual. After all, for better or worse, cars are a necessity for many in modern America.

What kind of performance are we expecting?
There’s nothing known for certain yet on the performance front, but GM is throwing out some tantalizing projected figures. They include:
- A GM-estimated electric range of up to 400 miles or more on a full charge
- The ability to go from 0 to 60 miles-per-hour in somewhere between three and 8.5 seconds
- Battery options that range from 50 to 200 kW
- From 235 to 1,000 horsepower
