The Auto Industry Matters

December 4th, 2008 in News

auto mattersThe automotive industry is vital to the US economy.  The current financial crisis has impacted the automotive industry and crippled the ability to secure credit.  General Motors is asking the current administration and Congress for a loan, not a bail out.  As you watch the news and wonder if it is in your best interest to support the auto industry consider this.

One out of every 10 people in America is employed in a service that is related to the US auto industry.  If a plant closes, so does its suppliers, local stores and vendors.

Nearly 3 million jobs would be lost in the first year alone-with anther 2.5 million to follow over the next two years.

Personal income in the United States would drop by more than $150.7 billion over three years in lost taxes, unemployment and health care assistance.

Domestic automotive production would more than likely fall to zero-even by international producers, due to supplier bankruptcies.

There are some 14,000 US brand dealers in cities and towns across the country, employing approximately 740,000 people, with a total payroll of some $35 billion.

Please take a moment to be involved and let your representatives know you are concerned by calling 1-866-927-2233.  For more information and to state your support click on www.gmfactsandfiction.com.
